Tony De Nonno will take students on an enlightening journey into the life and legacy of puppeteers Mike and Aida Manteo, their children and grandchildren, a family bound together by a Sicilian folk tradition that spans a century in New York. Experience this enchanting vision of New York’s acclaimed Papa Manteo Sicilian Marionette Theater, first established on Catherine Street in Manhattan’s Little Italy in 1918.  It heralds the enduring values of Chivalry.

From the beginning to the end of his presentation, with one of Papa Miguel Manteo’s authentic Orlando Furioso marionettes in hand, Mr. De Nonno’s engages “children of all ages” in attendance to be active participants. Interacting directly with the ‘live marionette’ they will share their thoughts, insights, knowledge and experiences as this exciting 5,000 year old journey into the origins and artistry of this century-old Papa Manteo tradition unfolds before their eyes.

Several invdividuals in attendance will have the opportunity to bring this magnificent Papa Manteo marionette to life. A highlight will be the screening of Tony De Nonno award-winning, nationally broadcast PBS Network documentary about the Manteo Family — “It’s One Family: Knock on Wood.”

In Honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Tony De Nonno will screen segments of his acclaimed nationally broadcast PBS Documentary Film- “Heaven Touches Brooklyn in July.”

It will be an inspiring and unforgettable experience for all.
