Prof. Linda Pagani, PhD
“Extracurricular sports produce disciplined preteen students”
“Extracurricular sports are a way of addressing both the obesity and school dropout crises at the same time.  Programs to help parents develop their child’s self-regulation skills and the availability of extracurricular sports programs as early as kindergarten could help decrease the risk of kids being left behind, Policy makers should consider improving access to parks and playgrounds, where children and their families can engage in sporting activities, to improve access to K12 enrichment programs that target self-regulation skills, and to improve the promotion of active schools and communities.”

Prof. Lydia Lewis-Brandt, B.Sc, Dip. Ed.
“Maria Montessori’s movement & child development”

Prof. Lydia Lewis-Brandt will introduce the work of Italy’s brilliant scientist and educational practitioner, Dr. Maria Montessori, whose method of education is practiced in thousands of schools around the world. She will share how movement is integrated into the fabric of daily activity and learning in the Montessori classroom. Ms. Lewis-Brandt will also give examples of the physical movement opportunities available outside of the classroom at Near North Montessori School, the largest private Montessori school in the Unites States, located in Chicago.
